The red ones are my [rough] translation, the black coloured texts are the original e-mail I had gotten from my friend.

Kebenaran yang Tidak Diungkap Media dalam Kasus David Hartanto! The truth that was not shown in the Media about David Hartanto’s case! Share Today at 12:25 Hari ini (5/3-09) saya dan temen2 SD/SMP yang seangkatan sama David Hartanto (Ming2) kita sama2 main kerumah keluarga Hartanto, sekedar untuk menyampaikan bela sungkawa, serta mencari kebenaran yang sesungguhnya karena kami tahu kalau David tidak akan melakukan hal-hal yang seperti diberitakan oleh media. Disana kami disambut oleh kakak David, dan orangtuanya, kebetulan kami datang bersamaan dengan keluarga besar Hartanto, jadi kami lebih banyak mengobrol dengan kakak David, yaitu William Hartanto, atau dulu dikenal teman2 seangkatannya dengan panggilan Weha. Today (5/3-09) me and my primary/junior high school friends who were in the same year with David Hartanto (Ming2) went to Hartanto Family’s house, just to give our condolences, and to seek the truth, ’cause we know, that actually, David would not do those things that were potrayed/reported by the media. There, we were greeted by David’s older brother and David’s parents. Coincidentally, we came together with the Hartanto big family, so we talked mostly with David’s older brother, William Hartanto. He was also known by ‘Weha’. Semakin lama mendalami kasus ini, makin banyak keanehan yang terbuka, dan untuk adanya pemberitaan yang mulai menunjukkan kebenaran, kami berterima kasih untuk rekan David di NTU yaitu edwin, kami tahu dia mempertaruhkan gelar sarjananya demi mengungkap kebenaran, karena itu kami juga mau membantu menyebarkan kabar yang sesungguhnya. The deeper we went into this case, the bizarrer it got, and for the deliverance[Uggh, It's hard to translate this part, I'm brain dead atm] that started to show the truth. we are thankful towards David’s uni colleague (or uni-mates, even), Edwin. We know that he put his degree in risk to tell the truth. Because of that, we too, want to help to spread the ‘real’ news. Kejanggalan-kejanggalan yang ada: [I'm having difficulties translating janggal/kejanggalan- It would mean something that's 'not right' or 'seems wrong' or 'loopholes' Sort of thing] Things that appear to be not right/weird/wrong/missing : 1. Munculnya berita bahwa David menyerang Profesor Chan Kap Luk, lalu bunuh diri, padahal tidak ada bekas sayatan di pergelangan tangan seperti yang diberitakan, lalu darimana muncul berita tersebut? Untuk apa dimunculkan berita palsu bahwa David menyayat pergelangan tangannya? 1. The appearance/emergence of the news that David attacked/assaulted Professor Chan Kap Luk, and commited suicide, even though there was no cut marks on the wrists like what was reported, so where did that news/information came from? What for is there the fake news on David slitting his wrist? 2. Saat keluarga tiba disana senin malam setelah kejadian, keluarga ingin langsung melihat jenazah David, namun dihalangi oleh pihak2 tertentu, dengan alasan sudah peraturan, tentu saja keluarga harus menurut, apalagi saat itu keluarga masih syok. Lalu saat diizinkan melihat kondisi jenazah keesokan harinya, keluarga hanya diizinkan untuk melihat jenazah bagian leher ke atas, sedangkan bagian tubuh yang lain telah ditutupi plastik. Keluarga Hartanto juga telah mengkonfirmasikan ke pihak polisi Singapura, tidak ada luka di bagian pergelangan tangan. Saat itu keluarga Hartanto juga melihat di bagian leher depan (daerah leher dibawah bahu) terdapat banyak plesteran luka. 2. When the family arrived there [I do not know where there is] on monday evening after the incident, the family wanted to look at David’s remains/body, but was stopped/blocked[halang- I can't find a better word atm] by specific parties, with a reason that it was already the rule. Of course, the family had to comply, and at that time, the family was still in shock. And when they were allowed to see the condition of the body the next day, the family was only allowed to see the neck and above parts of the body, while the rest had been covered by plastic. Hartanto family had given confirmation to the Singapore police that there was no wound on the wrist. At that time too, the Hartanto family saw the front part of the next (neck area below the shoulder ) <- [I'm confused with this statement but...] existsed a lot of plastered wounds. Pertanyaannya. Untuk apa keluarga Hartanto menunggu 1 hari untuk melihat jenazah keluarga kandung mereka sendiri? Mengapa jenazah harus ditutupi oleh plastik? Apakah benar ada peraturan seperti itu? Atau hanya karangan pihak2 tertentu saja untuk menutupi kenyataan? Darimana asal luka di leher? Mengapa jenazah David terlihat berdarah cukup parah di bagian bokong? The question is, for what /why Hartanto family wait 1 day to see the body of their own kin/family? -[Uh, my friend in the police force told me that there are specific times where the body needs to be investigated and can only be collected the next day, or stuff like that- but- I'm not sure about this case, but I think it's normal for them to do autopsy]. Why does the body need to be covered by plastic? Is it really true that there exist such a rule? Where did the neck wound come from? Why is it that David’s corpse looked like it bled quite heavily on the posterior area? 3. Saat keluarga tiba di TKP senin malam, karena tidak diizinkan untuk melihat jenazah, keluarga datang ke NTU untuk melihat TKP, namun saat sampai, polisi tidak menemukan satupun bekas darah ataupun police line. Hebat bukan? Hanya dalam waktu sekitar 7 jam sejak waktu kejadian, TKP telah bersih total, adakah alasan untuk buru2 membersihkan TKP? 3. When the family arrived at the crime scene on monday night, ’cause they were not allowed to see the body, the family came to NTU to look at the crime scene. But when they arrived, the police did not find a single trace/remmant of blood nor police line. Isn’t it amazing? Only in around 7 hours since the incident time, the crime scene was totally clean, was there a reason to clean the scene in a hurry? [Well- Yes? At least for me, anyway, since it's a uni where there's not only 100 students around, wouldn't it really be scary if you see blood splattering around? really nao D:] 4. Lalu keluarga datang melihat kamar David, dan apa yang ditemukan? Ternyata semua peralatan komputer yang ada di kamar itu semua MENYALA. Apakah seorang yang mau bunuh diri akan menyalakan semua peralatan komputernya? Bahkan menurut kesaksian seorang teman, account MSN David masih menyala. Apakah hal ini terlihat seperti David mau mengakhiri hidupnya? Bahkan dia masih bermain game online sampai jam 2 pagi di hari kejadian bersama teman yang tadi menjenguk keluarga David. 4. Then the family went to look at David’s room. And what did they find? All the computer systems that was in that room was all ON. When someone’s planning to commit suicide, do they turn on all of their computer systems/machinary? Even according to a friend’s testimony, David’s MSN account [I would assume it is MSN messenger here] was still on. Does this seem like David was gonna end his life? He was even playing an Online Game till 2AM on the incident day with his friend who was visiting David’s family earlier. 5. Pada ruangan profesor tertinggal tas David yang biasa dia bawa, dan tebak apa yang dia bawa dalam tasnya? Sebuah handuk dan botol air mineral 1,5 L. (Semua yang mengenal Ming2 pasti tahu, dikelas, sejak SD, Ming2 selalu membawa handuk, bahkan kadang dikalungkan di leher saat berada di kelas, dia juga selalu membawa air minum yang banyak karena mamanya selalu berpesan untuk banyak mengkonsumsi air). Apakah seorang yang mau membunuh, lalu bunuh diri, akan membawa barang seperti itu? Akan jauh lebih mudah untuk membawa sebilah pisau yang besar (lebih besar dari pisau berukuran 10cm yang muncul di TKP, yang entah milik siapa). 5. In the professor’s room, David’s bag (which he usually bring around) was left. And guess what he brought in his bag? A towel and a 1.5L mineral water bottle (Everyone that knows Ming2 (David) would know, in class, since Primary school, Ming2 always brings a towel, sometimes, he even put it around his neck when he’s in class. He too, always bring a lot of drinking water ’cause his mum would always advise to drink lots of water). Someone that has an intention to kill, and then to kill himself, would bring something like that? It would be far more easier to bring a big knife (bigger than the 10cm knife found in the crime scene, which the ownership of the knife we do not know of). 6. Keluarga dihalang-halangi saat hendak bertemu dengan Profesor Chan Kap Luk, dengan alasan, saat itu dia sedang di ICU, dan kenyataannya? Hari rabu sang Profesor telah keluar dari rumah sakit. Apakah ada catatan seorang yang menderita luka tusukan parah yang harus masuk ICU, dapat keluar dari rumah sakit dalam tidak sampai 2 hari? Benarkan sang Profesor terluka? Atau hanya membaca koran sambil bersantai di ICU? 6. The family was blocked/stopped when they wanted to meet with Prof. Chan Kap Luk, with the reason that he was in ICU at that time, and the fact was? On wednesday, the Professor was already discharged from the hospital. Was there a record that someone who is suffering from severe stabbing wound that needed them to be in ICU, could be discharged from the Hospital less than 2 days? Is it true that the Professor was wounded? Or just reading the newspaper while relaxing in ICU? [No comment, lolol] 7. Saat keluarga ingin bertemu dengan “saksi mata” yang melihat David melompat dari lantai 4, pihak NTU menghalangi dengan alasan hal itu harus dirahasiakan. Oke, kalau begitu, darimana kita tahu kalau benar2 ada orang yang melihat kalau David benar2 melompat, bukannya terjatuh ataupun dijatuhkan orang? 7. When the family wanted to meet the “eye-witness” who saw David jump from the 4th floor, NTU’s side [Basically the party from NTU] did not allow/block/stopped due to privacy reasons [If the whole sentence were to be direct translated it would be : with the reason that that[that incident/eyewitness] has to be kept in secret ]. Okay, if so, then how do we know whether there really was someone who saw David jump, and not because David fell/ was pushed down/ the fall was caused by someone else? [Privacy reasons are pretty annoying sometimes... I guess they were scared the eye witness would be terrorized or something;] 8. Data tentang David dan FYP (Final Year Project) nya telah dihapus dari database NTU. Hanya dalam 2 hari, NTU langsung menghapus data topik FYP yang sedang David kerjakan, adakah alasan khusus dibalik keterburu-buruan pihak NTU untuk menghapus data tersebut? Tidakkah ada rasa ingin mengenang salah satu mahasiswa berprestasinya, alih-alih langsung menghapus data, seakan David tidak pernah kuliah disana? 8. Data regarding David and His FYP (Final Year Project) had already been deleted from NTU’s databse. And only within 2 days, NTU immediately deleted the data of David’s FYP topic project. Was there a special reason behind the ‘rushed’ data deletion by NTU? Wouldn’t there exist a feeling of wanting to keep the memories of one of their successful [berprestasi- quite a difficult word to translate, literally this mean high achieving] student, rather than just deleting the data, as if David never studied there? 9. Polisi Singapura menahan Laptop milik David dan akan dikembalikan setelah penyelidikan selesai. Untuk apa? 9. Singapore Police retained David’s laptop and the laptop would be returned at the end of the investigation. For what? [Well obviously; They need to check for extra leads regarding why he committed suicide, if he even did, or something else, or something, right?] 10. Pisau yang ada di TKP, dilaporkan berasal dari hall 4, itu hasil investigasi? Atau hanya karangan? Seorang teman di NTU berkata bahwa biasanya seorang dosen memiliki pisau kecil di ruangannya yang biasa digunakan untuk memotong buah. Jadi? Itu pisau milik David Hartanto atau Chan Kap Luk? 10. The knife that was in the Crime Scene, was reported to have been from hall 4, and is that the result of the investigation? Or is it just a made-up story? A friend in NTU said that a lecturer would usually have a small knife in their rooms to cut fruits. So? Was the owner that knife David Hartanto or Chan Kap Luk? 11. Waktu kejadian adalah sekitar jam 10.45 waktu Singapura hari Senin, apakah tidak terdengar aneh jika hanya sedikit sekali mahasiswa yang ada dan menyaksikan kejadian? Adakah tekanan dari pihak NTU untuk tutup mulut? 11. The time of incident was around 10.45 Singapore time on Monday, does it not sound funny if only a small amount of students saw the incident? Or was there pressure from NTU that refrained people from disclosing things? [Myfriend told me that it might be because its the monday after the holidays- and I don't really think NTU is pressurizing anyone since NTU themselves (so I heard) has not announced that it was a suicide, just said that David "fell off the walkway"] 12. Senjata yang ditemukan -pisau buah 10cm- ditemukan tanpa gagang, dimanakah gagangnya? Mengapa tidak dilakukan analisa sidik jari? Jelas tidak mungkin menusuk seseorang tanpa menggunakan gagang pisau, jadi entah siapapun yang menusuk siapa, pasti ada gagangnya, namun pemberitaannya belum jelas. 12. the weapon that was found -Fruit knife 10cm- was found without the handle, where’s the handle? Why were there no fingerprints investigations? Obviously it’s not possible to stab someone withouth the knife handle [Well, it would be possible, but it would kinda suck], so no matter who stabbed who, there must be the handle there, but the reports were not clear yet. Pemberitaan miring yang disebutkan media pun tidak berdasar, berikut klarifikasinya: The news which are a bit off that were told by the media were also groundless. here are the clarifications: 1. David berniat membunuh Profesornya lalu bunuh diri meloncat. Di dalam ruangan tersebut hanya ada David dan Profesor, David telah tiada, dan kesaksian yang bisa didengarkan hanyalah dari Profesor, darimana kita tahu kalau kesaksian tersebut benar? Tanpa bukti2 yang cukup, kesaksian Profesor tersebut tidak bisa dijadikan alasan untuk menyalahkan David. 1. David intended to kill his Professor then commit suicide by jumping. In that room, there was only David and professor. David passed away, and the only witness that could be listened is only the Professor’s statement. How do we know that, that statement is indeed true? Without sufficient evidence, the testimony of the professor would not be enough to be a reason to blame/condemn (?) David. 2. David dikatakan stress karena beasiswanya dicabut, bahkan dia salah sasaran, yaitu mengamuk ke dosen pembimbingnya. Tidakkah hal itu terdengan sangat aneh? David sangat tahu dengan jelas bahwa beasiswanya diberhentikan karena prestasinya menurun, bukan salah Profesor itu. Pihak keluarga telah diberitahu sejak hari pertama diberitahukan bahwa beasiswanya diberhentikan, dan pihak keluarga menerima, dan mampu untuk membayarnya, David juga bersikap biasa2 saja tentang pemberhentian beasiswanya. Bagi yang mengenal dia, tentu tahu bahwa dia orang yang sangat cuek, hal ini juga dapat dilihat dari post edwin. 2. David was said as stressed ’cause his scholarship was revoked, and he was even blaming the wrong person, and got mad at his lecturer. Doesn’t it sound weird? David knows very well that his scholarship was revoked because of his declining marks/achievements, not because of that professor. David’s family was told since the first day it was told that his scholarship was revoked, and the family accepted, and was able to pay for it. David acted usual/normal about his revoked scholarship. For those who knows David, they would surely know that he’s a person that doesn’t really care [cuek, is a really hard word to translate, bu li bu cai, is probably the mandarin word for it?]. This fact could also be seen by Edwin’s post. 3. Dikatakan pula, bahwa David depresi karena tidak mampu menyelesaikan FYPnya. Seorang rekan David disana menyatakan bahwa FYP David hampir selesai. Dia tidak pulang ke Indonesia pada akhir semester lalu, karena ingin berkonsentrasi menyelesaikan FYPnya. Bagi yang mengenal David, apalagi kami teman sekolahnya, tentu tahu, David sejak dulu memang ketagihan game, tapi 1 hal, dia selalu mengerjakan tugas dan PRnya dengan baik, tanpa bantuan orang lain apalagi menyalin hasil pekerjaan orang lain. Jadi, jika dikatakan dia menyerang dosen pembimbingnya karena FYPnya tidak selesai, hal itu benar2 tidak masuk diakal. 3. It was also said, that David was depressed ’cause he was unable to finish his FYP. David’s colleague/uni-mate stated that David’s FYP was near to completion. He didn’t go back to Indonesia end of last semester, ’cause he wanted to concentrate on finishing his FYP. For those who knows David, especially his schoolmates, would definitely know, that David since then was always addicted to game, but one thing, he would always finish his schoolworks, without any help from others, let alone copying other’s works. So, if it’s said that he attacked/assaulted his advising lecturer just because his FYP was not finished, that really doesn’t make any sense. 4. David diberitakan pula menghilang dari pergaulan selama kurang lebih 1 minggu sebelum kejadian, namun keluarga David tahu yang sebenarnya, David sedang berkonsentrasi untuk menyelesaikan FYPnya, jadi pernyataan bahwa David menghilang dari pergaulan karena sedang depresi dan ingin membunuh itu sangat tidak valid, karena saat itu dia banyak chatting dengan kakaknya, bahkan bermain game online bersama temannya di Indonesia. Terlihat seperti orang depresi yang mau membunuh dosennya? Tidak sama sekali! 4. David was also reported to be missing from social circles for around 1 week before incident, but David’s family know what’s the truth, David was concentrating to finish his FYP, so the statement that David disappeared from his social life cause he was depressed and wanted to commit suicide’s very invalid, ’cause at that time he was chatting a lot with his brother, even playing online games with his friends in Indonesia. Does this look like someone who’s depressed and wanted to kill his/her lecturer? Not all all! Saat ini fakta-fakta yang muncul setelah menyingkirkan pemberitaan media adalah: current, the facts that appeared after disregarding/brushing away media reports are : 1. David meninggal jatuh dari lantai 4, tanpa luka sayatan di pergelangan tangan, dan dengan luka di bagian leher, serta bagian bokong berlumuran darah. 1. David passed away falling from the 4th floor, without slit wound in his wrist, and with wound at his neck area, and his behind area/butt/ was covered in blood. 2. Sang Profesor keluar dari rumah sakit dalam 2 hari, tanpa kejelasan dan foto apakah dia terluka atau tidak. 2. The Professor was discharged from the hospital within 2 days, without picture evidence or elaboration on whether he was wounded or not. 3. Pisau tidak jelas berasal darimana, dan ditemukan tanpa gagang. 3. The knife of unknown origin, and found without the handle. 4. Pihak universitas menutup-nutupi kejadian ini. 4. University side sort of covering up this incident [Well, I wouldn't say so since the students gets official messages...?] Spekulasi dan kemungkinan-kemungkinan: Speculations and what might have happened : Apakah benar David menyerang profesor saat dia sedang membungkuk menghadap ke layar komputer? Jika itu benar, maka tidak mungkin saat ini profesor tersebut telah pulang ke rumahnya dalam 2 hari sejak kejadian. Is it true that David attacked/assaulted the professor when he was slouching and facing the computer monitor? If that was true, then it is not possible that now the professor has gone back to his own house withing 2 days since the day of incidence. Apakah sang profesor tersebut yang justru menyerang David? Tidak tahu, namun jika ya, apa motifnya? Could it be that it’s actually the professor that attacked David? Don’t know, even though it’s true, what’s the motives? Saat ini santer beredar di Singapura kabar bahwa sang Profesor ingin merebut FYP milik David. Hal ini didukung oleh kesaksian teman David yang mengatakan FYP David hampir selesai. Apakah mungkin seorang dosen dan Profesor dari universitas terkemuka di negara maju mau merebut FYP milik mahasiswanya sendiri? Apakah ini motif sesungguhnya? Kita tidak tahu! Right now, there’s rumour spreading in Singapore that the Professor wanted to snatch David’s FYP. This was supported by the testimony of David’s friend that said that David’s FYP was nearly finished. Is it possible that a lecturer and at the same time a professor from this well-known University in an advanced country would snatch their own student’s FYP? Would this be the real motive? We don’t know! Apakah ada orang ketiga dalam kasus ini? Kita tidak juga tahu. Is there a third person in this case? We don’t know too. Ming, saat ini lo udah gak ada, gak ada lagi yang bisa kita lakukan buat lo, selain pulihin nama baik lo, dan menyatakan kebenaran, lo istirahat yang tenang aja disana. Ming, now you’re not here anymore, there’s nothing we could do for you, other than clearing your name/restoring your good name [LIke um, restoring the rights of you, or like, something like that-] RIP, ming.
